ROSEAU, DOMINICA | Prominent businessman and journalist, Parry Bellot, has died.

ROSEAU DOMINICA | Former press secretary, entrepreneur and journalist, Parry Bellot, has died, a local media outlet has reported.

In a release from the online media organization, Nature Isle News who broke the news this morning, stated, “He was a patient at the hospital for the past week and was said to be recuperating. News of his death comes as a complete surprise.” Dominica News Online posted on its website that, “he was a founding member of the Dominica Media and Communications Association,” adding, “Bellot was an active and outspoken public figure up until his passing.”

We are deeply saddened by this news. Parry was an old friend from way back. Our deepest condolences to his family and Friends.

I can remember in 1985, during my stint in the Statistics and Economic Unit I met his wife, Claudia, when she worked in the laboratory at the Ministry of Agriculture at the Botanic Gardens, and we rubbed shoulders with Parry at Dominica Writers Guild meetings, and later with the running of Community Hostels Inc commonly referred to as the Grotto home for the Homeless.

In 2016 he self-published a 73-page paperback, ‘Rebuilding Dominica Better’ (ISBN-10 : ‎1539550206 ) “which is a collection of articles on rebuilding Dominica after Tropical Storm Erika.”

Moreover, he was a prominent member of Dominica’s private sector, where he was the founder and Managing Director at Parbel Enterprises, established in 1972. For many years he published a magazine, Link, and was also involved in a number of other initiatives, including his television program, The Link onLine in which he featured discussions, of important, local, regional, and international news of the day.

Among his many contributions to society, the late Parry Bellot served as the Press secretary under the Eugenia Charles administration in the 1980s. My wife and I extend our deepest condolences to his wife, and the rest of his family, colleagues and his many friends.
