The newly-crowned, calypso monarch, Jaydee, emerged from a field of ten finalists, including the nine-times winner, Dice, to lift the trophy last night.

The Windsor Park Sports stadium was the venue for the competition hosted by the Dominica Calypso Association. Former Calypso Monarch, Tasha ‘Tasha P” Peltier, was placed the first runner up, while De Web placed third, and Fitzroy ‘Bingo’ Leon fourth.

Other finalist included: Karessah, Bobb, De Hunter, De Healer, Observer and nine-times monarch, King Dice who all failed to place in the top three.

King Jaydee will join Miss Dominica 2020, Savahnn James, the Carnival Queen, who won the Miss Dominica 2020 pageant on Friday, in the Carnival Winners Parade on Carnival Tuesday.

According to Dominica News online, the judging panel included Chief Judge, Marlon Marie, Al Monelle, Nadine Riviere, Rena Stephens, Evelina Baptiste, Reginald Lafleur, Roland Royer, and Daniel Seraphine.

Calypso songs are scored by a panel of Judges based on four key factors:

Lyrics – 35 Points
Melody – 35 Points
Rendition – 10 Points
Presentation – 20 Points

The official theme for Mas Domnik 2020

Play de Riddim, Play Mas

The Dominica Festivals Committee has revealed the official theme for Mas Domnik 2020. Mas Domnik 2020 will be celebrated under the theme Play de Riddim, Play Mas from the official opening parade on January 18, 2020 until the Carnival street parades on February 24 – 25, 2020.
